June 12: Quatre Mains Aléatoire @ MOMI-fest

Quatre Mains Aléatoire (my random piano composition by four cd-players) was invited to perform live at the next MOMI-fest on June 12th, in Romein, Leeuwarden. Check this video of the Quatre Mains Aléatoire performance in Kunstenlab. It will be interesting to see how this audio installation holds up on stage in a pop venue…

momi-fest

Rest of the line-up: Phil Mills, TCTW and De Geweldigheid. I’m particularly looking forward to seeing De Geweldigheid (a fusion of Parkside and Jack Meoff and the Lockerroom Lovers) in action.

Update 1: De Geweldigheid was great (as expected)! And Quatre Mains Aléatoire did quite allright too, considering that you can never be sure of anything with those random compositions… Here are  some photo’s.

Update 2: The video below is a short edit of aproximately one hour of random performance. De Geweldigheid played right after Quatre Mains Aléatoire. I added their first song for the sake of contrast…

Premsela design forum @ Milan Design Week

premsela-restore1

At a Premsela design forum in Milan on 22 April, prominent figures in the field will discuss the value of an alternative to recyling: repair.

Speakers including designers Piet Hein Eek and Satyendra Pakhalé, Hermès director of innovations Corinne Poux-Bernard, and Platform21 artistic director Joanna van der Zanden will share their views on the value of repair in the context of the global economic crisis. Author Marco Bevolo will moderate the discussion. Dutch Culture Minister Ronald Plasterk will introduce the event.

Held during Milan design week, the Premsela Design Forum takes Platform21’s current project, Platform21 = Repairing, as a point of departure. Platform21’s Repair Manifesto has been receiving attention in the media, and 20,000 copies will be distributed in Milan.

The forum will take place in Milan’s Romeo Gigli Café, which will also host exhibitions by ArtEZ and the Design Academy Eindhoven.

A photo (by Leo Veger) of my repaired Thonet chair is used to promote this event. Nice.

Verjaardaveaux: Acieeed!

Tomorrow (Friday, April 10) we are ready to launch the very first edition of Verjaardaveaux in Havenkwartier Deventer.

Verjaardaveaux are really cool birthdayparties, only accessible for people on the guestlist. Only the first 100 people responding to the invitation get on this guestlist. If you want to receive invitations for this guestlist, you can be added to the mailinglist by sending e-mail to mailing@havenkwartier.org.

This first edition celebrates the birthdays of Bart Folmer and myself. It will be a (somewhat oldschool) acid party. You’re in for only 5 euro and we have a surprise line-up (but I’m sure to be laying some acid on there too!). Phat acid sounds guaranteed!!

The mayhem starts at 22:00 and you have to be in before 23:00.

Update: Verjaardaveaux was great fun! Check photo’s overhere. And some video below.

Some simultaneous expo action

expos

Tomorrow (Friday the 13th), is the opening day for two exhibitions: ‘Knitted Worlds’ in Tilburg (of which I wrote earlier) and ‘Platform21=Repairing’ in Amsterdam (of which I’ll write below).

March 13 – August 9 in Platform21, Amsterdam: Platform21=Repairing, a project about (you guessed it) repairing stuff. Read all about it overhere. Check all info about the opening overhere. And download their Repair Manifesto overhere. This project features (amongst many other things) my Restore I, a repaired original Thonet.

Platform21 is a platform for people curious about the future. An old, round chapel in Amsterdam is their public design laboratory. Here they organise exhibitions, lectures and other events.

Oh, and the third expo is of course Uncollectibles in Kunstenlab. You can still visit Uncollectibles ’till March 22.

Update: Found a nice photo of Restore I online.
