Ever since Flussball I started getting ideas for more T-shirt art. Too many ideas to ignore. So I started a new (side-)project: One-off T-shirts. T-shirts with prints in a signed and numbered edition of only one. Unique. Every single one of them. I've just completed the first three. They are likely to be shown in an exhibition soon and are not for sale, because they're already spoken for. But the next one can be yours. Or the one after that. Or the next... oh well, you get the picture. Every time I sell one T-shirt, I make a new one.

‘Muziek raken’ (Touching music) is an educational project about music I developed together with Marloes Bloemenkamp. Last year was very successful, so we get to do it again this year. Marloes teaches groups of gifted children in the ages 9-12 from different primary schools in Deventer. Read more here. After a short introduction with tips regarding composition and working together, the children formed groups (orchestra’s) based on their musical instruments. A difficult process, because we first had to decide what selection criteria we could use, which instruments sound well together and what is needed for the group to work. When the groups were finally formed, they worked out a composition of up to 2 minutes. It was really great to see that many different and creative approaches were used. But just like last year this is also the point in the project where it becomes clear that some of the compositions do need way more time for development and practice then we actually have left… That is, if you regard the public performance in Burgerweeshuis as the most important result of this project. Which it probably isn’t, because 'Muziek raken' challenges these kids on all kinds of personal levels as well. This is why we also present some sort of photo journal which makes the whole project more transparent and takes some of the focus off the performance.

Just designed a logo. 3V3A stands for 'drie vrouwen, drie ambachten' (three women, three crafts). The three women and their crafts are Jeannette Knigge (goldsmith), Inge Ikink (sculptor) and Judith Veldhoen (painter). Starting September 2013 these three artists start working together in offering you a unique triple course. An exciting art estafette of 15 nights in three ateliers in the historic heart of Deventer. You'll be drawing, painting, sculpturing and forging precious metals. Read more here.

Next Friday I'm DJ-ing back to back with Bart 'Kalima' Folmer again. This has been a while, so I'm very much looking forward to this! It's my first gig in Elegast Deventer and it's also the first use of our new moniker: Tromgeroffel. Bart and me will be spinning some old skool jungle and whatever else we think is needed at the time. We both tend to derail somewhat when playing together like this, so there's really no telling where the set leads us... which makes it all the more exciting! Break out your dancing shoes, we are at it again! On the same night duo Simbapwe spins reggae, roots and dub and my favo local DJ collective Moonstones is up for high quality dubstep. Unite! Esc.rec. presents The Diamond Exchange. Two passionate music fans take turns in playing their personal favorites for each other, in front of an audience. Participants are selected to ensure a certain level of musical compatibility and to stimulate chemistry, which can be equally interesting for the participants and the audience. At best, you witness an exciting, musical conversation between two connoisseurs. Depending on the selected participants, that conversation may trigger an audience to listen, dance, or both. No limits, anything goes. April 20, 23:00-3:00 hrs. in Het Burgerweeshuis, Deventer: The 9th edition of The Diamond Exchange, with Harald Seebus (Southern Depot) and Kevin Dybiona (DMonk, Catfish). Harald is known as Southern Depot in the electronic (dance) scene: bass music, electro(nica) and ambient, but there is much more to be found in his music storage. What to think of shelves full of jazz, hip-hop, drum’n'bass, house, pop, rock, jazz, skate punk and classical music? And that’s not even everything… Kevin is a sonic explorer since the 80?s. A former Drum ‘n’ Bass DJ under the DMonk moniker, and other styles under the name Catfish. Kevin is now no longer active as a DJ, but that has not hampered his search for breaks and beats at all. Expect the unexpected as he takes us on a tour through his extensive record collection. Both music lovers are open to almost anything and they’ll prove this during The Diamond Exchange. You have to pay 7,50 euro to get in, but then you also get to enjoy the 7,5 year anniversary of Deventer Dub Sessions with Hunee & Antal.

Jorg (producer, DJ and record label owner of Lomechanik fame) brings us his latest work. And it’s released through Esc.rec. this time. Please take your time for this nightly narrative album, meticulously constructed of field recordings and soundscapes, evolving into more beat orientated pieces and energetic, uptempo tracks. Jorg takes you on a stroll through cold industrial places and wanders with you through abandoned suburbs. Headphones on and let the images flow. Eventually we end up in a basement with fucked up punks wearing hiphop T-shirts, banging their heads against the speakers. Unsafe. When we come out, it’s already light and it’s hurting our eyes. This release is available as a pay-what-you-want download, but also as a very limited CD in a handsome digipak with stamped artwork. Only 50 numbered copies of these are available. Be quick!

Marloes teaches groups of gifted children in the ages 9-12 from different primary schools in Deventer. Read more here. Yesterday we started with an introduction, researching the definitions of sound and music and thinking about how to make your own sounds and instruments. We did this with the help of Jan Schellink, an enthousiastic and experienced improvisor and instrument-builder. Asking questions, getting answers. Playing a stringed wok. Playing a stringed ski. Playing a rumbler. Playing a thumb piano. Beatboxing and looping. Playing a balafon. Playing a stringed wok. Playing a chair. Needless to say all of this was great fun! Afterwards we gave the children this text to read at home. Next week it’s time for lesson two, where they bring stuff and build their own instruments. I’ll try to keep posting about this project. It all ends in a performance at the third junior edition of Ass-crack Stage-hack on June 8 at Het Burgerweeshuis in Deventer. More information about this coming up.
