April 22, 23: ass-crack stage-hack #12 and The Diamond Exchange

The weekend of April 22/23 is going to be another interesting one for sure. I organize two events this weekend! On Friday April 22 John Dear Mowing Club and Sir Ian play at ass-crack stage-hack #12 in Havenkwartier Deventer. Two intimate singer/songwriter concerts I don’t recommend missing.

Here’s a slight preview of Sir Ian to win you over:

And then, the night after the 22nd of April it’s the 23rd of April. Time for the very first edition of The Diamond Exchange, featuring Bart Folmer (Radion) and Harco Rutgers (Cette Truc), who also happen to be  the founding fathers of esc.rec. way back in 2004. The Diamond Exchange will take place in Het Burgerweeshuis in Deventer. You have to pay 6 euro to get in, but then you also get to enjoy the 5 year anniversary of Deventer Dub Sessions with San Soda and Tom Trago.

Both nights are typical no-brainers in my mind. You can’t not be there!

The Not So One Man Show

Just designed another poster for an art exhibition in Havenkwartier Deventer: The Not So One Man Show. It’s the personal art collection of visual artist and exhibition curator Patrick Mangnus. Seeing this list of artists made me realize my work isn’t in Patrick’s collection… yet. Let’s see what we can do about that. Patrick?

Anyway, go see it! Preferably at the opening where you can win a piece of art made by Patrick Mangnus.

Poster design

Graphic design is not an area of expertise I usually emphasise much, but looking back that didn’t stop me from wondering off in that direction quite frequently. Here’s a small selection of posters I designed in recent years. Some of them are for future events.

Maybe I’ll post a selection of album artwork later on.

March 18: ass-crack stage-hack #11

After almost a full year of radio silence esc.rec. continues the line of adventurous and often intimate concerts by popular demand. That makes this the 11th edition of the ass-crack stage-hack in Havenkwartier Deventer.

The brothers Kleefstra performed here before in an earlier edition of ass-crack stage-hack, then together with Machinefabriek and Soccer Committee. That was such an impressive performance that esc.rec. cordially invited them back again. This time, the Frisian poetry of Jan Kleefstra and soundscapes of guitarist Romke Kleefstra are combined with the enchanting sound of renowned bass clarinetist Gareth Davis (UK).

The second concert of the evening is provided by Bela Emerson (UK). She plays (electric) cello with a fascinating virtuosity. Her solo performances are very intense and exciting. Using electronics and effects, this lady from Brighton builds layers of rhythm and sound, making use of every part of her instrument.

Date: 18 March 2011
Open: 21:00 uur
Entrance: 5 euro
Location: Havenkwartier

Website Klassiek Raggen

I just finished building a new website for Klassiek Raggen (Bob Fosko and Kollektief Roest & Wrakhout). It felt like a privilege to be on the front row at the first public performance in Merleyn, where the above video was shot. Weird nostalgia.

The website is based on the same template as the previous websites I have built for other productiehuis ON productions. Which means this too is a WordPress based website with a lot of automated action going ON. Looks basic, but a lot of the content is imported through feeds, which makes updating relatively low maintenance.
